FREAKS: Arion Carter and Mike Matthews on ELITE College Football FREAK LIST | Practice Updates

Tennessee Volunteers land two standouts on The Athletic’s coveted Freaks List, with linebacker Arion Carter ranking sixth and wide receiver Mike Matthews at 71. Could this athletic duo propel the Vols to new heights in the SEC this season?

The conversation focused on Carter’s explosive metrics, Matthews’ speed surge, and how elite athleticism translates to on-field impact. Fall camp updates spotlight Ty Redmond’s return to practice, the intensifying quarterback battle between Faizon Brandon and George MacIntyre, and Ethan Davis’ injury opening reps for DeSean Brame. Several points were raised, including the challenges of red zone execution, the significance of upcoming scrimmages, and Tennessee’s 2027 recruiting class, with special attention on 2028 quarterback target Kaden Craft. Can the Volunteers turn athletic potential into SEC dominance?
