Lane Kiffin Tried to Apologize… It Made Things WORSE

Lane Kiffin is facing backlash after attempting to apologize to Ole Miss fans for comments he made in a recent Vanity Fair interview, but Rebels fans aren’t exactly in a forgiving mood. LSU fans can relate. Many remember the emotions surrounding Nick Saban’s departure in 2007 and the way those exits can leave lasting scars with a fanbase.

But the most fascinating part of Kiffin’s interview may not have been the apology at all.

Kiffin openly acknowledged that LSU’s 2026 team — despite the massive hype, transfer portal haul and reported $40 million investment into the roster — may not immediately surpass what Ole Miss had built in Oxford. Instead, Kiffin emphasized the “long tail” potential at LSU, suggesting the long-term ceiling in Baton Rouge is higher even if Year 1 comes with growing pains.
